Diversity, inclusion, equity and justice are important at CHA. Join us as we work to make change happen.
Diversity Steering Committee
The Diversity Steering Committee is an interdisciplinary group of self-identified trainees and trainee-appointed faculty members committed to improving the recruitment, retention, and support of CHA trainees and faculty who identify as Black, Indigenious and People of Color (BIPOC). We are working towards an educational environment that values diversity, inclusion and health equity. Our group spans across many CHA training programs (in psychiatry, psychology, family medicine, internal medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy), and we are actively expanding to include all departments at CHA.
We create a centralized, collaborative environment for trainees and faculty from different departments to coordinate and unify efforts with the goal of directing work on diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism across the organization. We advocate for opportunities to make our institution more aligned with these values, and we aim to promote the discussion and development of a needs assessment and evaluation mechanism that can be used within each department as a quality improvement measure. We also advocate for the development of curriculum that addresses health equity, anti-racism and implicit bias.
Minority Trainee Affinity Group (MTAG)
MTAG is a trainee-led, interdisciplinary social and professional community dedicated to improving the quality of work and trainee experiences at CHA. We promote diversity and inclusion, and address wide-ranging issues that impact racial, ethnic, gender and cultural minority trainees. Our group is open to current trainees and CHA alumni in all disciplines who identify as Black, Indigenous and other People of Color (BIPOC).
Together, we advocate for structural and organizational changes to eliminate barriers that adversely affect BIPOC trainees. We are devoted to being better tomorrow than we are today, and our work in equity and justice is no exception. Currently, our trainees receive support through MTAG in the form of regular social meetings, to process, discuss, and heal our race-related injuries from racism, anti-blackness and white supremacy in the context of training, work and everyday life. We promote the development of relationships in order to build trust and create a safe space for mentorship and support.
